New sales and service in the area now primarily run through Sunrun's national platform. That does not mean the local installers disappeared; it means you have to verify who is actually named on the proposal, the permit, and the warranty. Balance-of-system items—inverter, sub-panel, conduit, permits, a possible main panel upgrade, and load-side controls—usually add 30-50% on top of hardware. What was fair in 2020 may not apply in 2025. Storage hardware has gotten cheaper, but labor and electrical panel work have not. Verify current local quotes; utility rules also change.

4. Can a CTEK lithium battery charger maintain a home battery?

Short answer: no. CTEK makes solid lithium battery chargers for 12V and 24V starter and auxiliary batteries in vehicles, boats, and small off-grid circuits. A home energy storage system is a high-voltage battery pack with a built-in battery management system, inverter controls, and temperature management. It is not something an external charger can maintain. If a vendor suggests using a CTEK lithium battery charger to solve a home storage issue, that is a red flag. The storage battery manufacturer controls charging through its own BMS and inverter communication protocol. A CTEK charger has no way to manage that safely. Same family of products in name, but a completely different category under the electrical code.

5. Panasonic Evervolt vs Tesla Powerwall: which one is better?

I don't think that is an apples-to-apples comparison. In the proposals I review, Panasonic Evervolt is an ecosystem covering solar modules and storage options, while Tesla Powerwall is a battery product with its own ecosystem, inverter integration, and app. The better question is which configuration matches your solar array, load profile, service availability, and warranty expectations. In a quality review, I compare five things: usable capacity, continuous output, peak output, warranty terms, and installed cost per usable kWh. I want to say the current Powerwall is around 13.5 kWh usable, but Tesla changes specs and firmware often enough that I won't quote it as a fixed fact. Evervolt depends on the system configuration. The most reliable unit on paper is still a poor value if there is no local service contractor to support it.

6. What should I ask before any battery install?

Ask this: how long can the system support a real load in extreme conditions? Battery capacity tells you stored energy. Inverter power tells you what you can turn on at the same time. A 10-15 kWh battery can run lighting and refrigerators for many hours, but it will not run a 5-ton Las Vegas AC system if the inverter's continuous output is only 5 kW. I reviewed a proposal once where the energy reserve looked fine until we added up the load side. The battery would have tripped during the first heatwave. The fix was not a bigger battery; it was a critical loads panel and a load controller. The upside was fewer tenant complaints, and the risk was a budget increase. We redrew the backup circuit.
