Every buyer will ask, “how much does a power wall cost?” The honest answer is: it depends on your load profile, your project location, and who’s installing it.
I don’t have hard data on national averages. From the quotes we collected in Q4 2024, a Tesla Powerwall 3 came in between $12,000 and $15,000 installed before the 30% federal Investment Tax Credit. That cost included a new inverter and some electrical panel work at our site. The base unit is cheaper, but if you’re replacing a panel or adding a subpanel, it adds up fast. But that’s a convenience trade-off, not a quality improvement. In my experience, a vendor who says “this isn’t our strength—here’s who does it better” earns more trust than one who says “yes” to everything.
Everything I’d read about renewable energy procurement said consolidation was the future. In practice, the best value came from splitting the system purchase from the accessory purchase. - Small solar kits: A 200 watt solar panel kit from a dedicated solar parts distributor or a manufacturer like Renogy.
- Portable backup equipment: A rugged portable power bank from a power equipment specialist like Goal Zero or Jackery.
That doesn’t mean every solar company is bad at accessories. It means you should buy accessories from an expert who lives in that category. The same logic applies to EV charging infrastructure—if you need chargers across a commercial parking lot, that’s another specialty layer worth keeping separate.
Final Thought
Stop asking what a solar company can do. Ask what it should do.
Vivint Solar price and panels are part of the decision, but they’re not the whole decision. The real value is in identifying the boundaries of a vendor’s expertise. The specialist who knows their limits will save you more money than the generalist who promises everything.
